Killington Top Resort for Advanced SkiersKillington made The Aspen 10’s list of the top ski resorts for the advanced skier.  They say:

Killington Ski Resort, located in Vermont, is a superb resort for the advanced skier. Almost half the terrain is devoted to difficult trails, including a Double-Black-Diamond rated area known as “The Outer Limits” with enough moguls to make even expert skiers achieve flight. Other terrain includes woodland, or glade, skiing and steep terrain. In all Killington has 12 Double Black Diamond trails and half again as many Black Diamond runs. In all, 200 trails connect seven mountains via 33 chairlifts. Killington has the longest skiing season in the Northeast U.S. (typically November through April), an average annual snowfall of 250 inches, and 70-percent snowmaking capacity. Lessons are available without advance reservation at the Perfect Turn Ski School.

What do you think? Is Killington a top resort for the advanced skier? In our opinion, maybe on the East Coast, but definitely not overall.

More Moguls Coming to Killington

More Moguls Coming to KillingtonThe Killington Insider reports today that more bump runs are coming to Killington this season.  Killington has long been a favorite destination for mogul skiers, and now there are even more reasons to visit.

Lower Vertigo will see the addition of a seeded mogul run and they’ll also be looking at options for more natural bumps on classic runs like Outer Limits, Superstar and Ovation.

Killington Joins Liftopia

Killington Joins LiftopiaTechCrunch is reporting that Liftopia has raised another $1 million in venture capital.

Liftopia provides variable ski resort ticket pricing through its web site. Basically, they allow people to purchase reduced price lift tickets for off-peak days. They allow the resorts to change the price based on how much traffic they anticipate seeing on the slopes.  Rather than just set prices for different time periods, they can actually change their prices on a day-to-day basis.

The good news for all of us is that Killington has signed on this year (Stowe too).  That means there is yet another avenue for us to find discounted lift tickets.

Killington also recently announced their K50 discounted lift tickets.  This deal allows you to buy up to four $50 lift tickets with some blackout days. Better hurry on this one though as the offer expires on October 15.
