Looking for more information about our Killington Ski House or share houses in general? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Hopefully your questions are answered below, and if not, please feel free to email us with any other questions you may have.
What is a share house?
A share house is a new concept to a lot of people. Basically, what you have is a common house being shared by a number of people for the length of the ski season. Most of the use of that house comes on the weekends, when people escape from their daily routine to come up skiing or snowboarding. People basically become roommates for the weekend.
Share houses divide their membership into what we call “shares.” You can choose to purchase a quarter share, half share or full share based on your anticipated use of the house. A quarter share basically means you will plan to come up to the house about once a month. A half share means you plan to come up every other weekend. A full share means you’ll be up there all the time. Check out the costs and schedule for each of these options.
A share house saves a lot of money over a hotel plus it gives you a lot more chances to hit up the mountain. It really is an economical way to get a lot of skiing or riding in over the season. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new people when your friends may not be as into winter sports as you are.
Do you have a cool YouTube video where I can find out more information?
Why yes we do. How odd that you should ask. Take a look at our Killington ski house video now.
Does everyone already know each other?
Some of the people in the house have joined together or know each other from past years, but for the most part everyone meets at the house during the season.
What if I want to come with just my friends?
You and your friends are more than welcome to join together, but you will be sharing the house with a bunch of other people on the weekends. If you come up during the week, you may have the house to yourselves, but there’s no guarantee. Besides, this is not really the point of a share house.
Do people join on their own?
Definitely. It can be a bit scary joining without knowing anyone, but a lot of people do it and become great friends with the people they meet in the house. If you’d like to meet some of the people first, consider coming to one of our happy hours in the pre-season.
What if I don’t like someone in the house?
We don’t expect everyone in the house to become life-long friends, but in many years of running a ski house, we have never had any real problems with people in the house not getting along. Plus, it’s only for a weekend, right?
What if I don’t have a car?
If you live in the NYC or Boston area and don’t have a car, don’t worry about it. There is always someone coming up from those areas and people carpool all the time. In addition, there is an Amtrak train from NYC to Rutland, VT. A lot of people take that and relax or do some work along the way. We’ve never not had someone who wanted to come up not be able to.
Are there any rules I should be aware of?
Yes, we do have a few house rules that everyone is required to keep. You can view the complete list here.
Anything else I should know?
Nothing that we can think of or we would have listed it here. Email us if you have any other questions.
